The AIX/EMC Timefinder combination is not supported today for SAP R/3 and Oracle RMAN. But consider this. The cost of the feature to do this is very expensive regardless of the backup vendor or the disk vendor. Sounds like you are an AIX shop. If so, and you want to use the extended features in an AIX world today. You will have to go with Netbackup if you want to do EMC and TSM if you want to go with ESS. TSM will support both in V5.1, but Veritas has no plans at this time to support anything but EMC TimeFinder to my knowledge.

ESS is a disk subsystem. Are you comparing it to EMC disk or to Connectrix. I do not know if you can hook a ESS to a Connectrix. I know they were supposed to go open with Connectrix, but have not looked lately. As far as SAN TDPs there are some current combination restrictions that are supposed to all be lifted with V5.1. TDP for SAP R/3 and Oracle support the following combinations of Timefinder and FlashCopy: ESS and AIX (FlashCopy) EMC Symmetrix and Solaris (TimeFinder) But not EMC Symmetrix/AIX and ESS/Solaris Netbackup only supports EMC/Symmetrix. >From a raw SAN point of view TSM does not directly interface with the SAN in these environments this is a Fiber Channel SCSI Disk issue.
