Hi Klass, I would advise you to try an "audit volume fix=no" on that tape to find out if any file was damaged, then you have two possibilities : 1) no damaged file found : do a move data, to copy that data on another volume, then checkout of defective tape and give it back to you IBM rep. Those tapes have lifetime warranty and should be replaced for free ! 2) damaged files found : then, depending whether this was a primary pool volume or copy volume, you could : A) for primary volume : restore the volume from copy, check it out and let it be replaced as in 1) B) for copy volume : audit volume fix=yes, so that TSM removes all entries pointing to corrupted files from it's DB, move data to transfer valid files to another volume, checkout and replace from defective tape. For corrupted files not having been copied, if you are lucky TSM still has original in primary pool and will create a new copy during next copy stgpool operation, if not, consider your data as lost :-(
Anyway try to have a look at audit volume and restore volume commands help file, to be sure understanding possible issues you could face in those processes. Hope it helped ! If this was a scratch volume then i think there is a solution for it because i've read something about TSM still trying to use a scratch tape with media faults because it cannot mark scratch tapes damaged. Problem here is that is is a tape with data (q libv status) and i'm not sure how to fix this problem. Can anyone shed some light on this?
