Have you tried the 10.1.0.3.01 provider from Oracle, I tried microsofts
provider, and the 9x ODP and even trying Odbc wrappers till I decided to try
the 10g provider. I've not had any problems with it , yet, and I run queries
against 8 and 9i databases.
