Well...There are over 9k files in the VC folder (within the Microsoft Visual
Studio 8 folder) that are potential for update. The VB
folder has slightly over 450 files. I didn't code the SP or had anything to do
with it, but when you consider that the uninstall
for the SP has to work, or if there is an error while updating the rollback has
to work properly (and likely many other things I am
not listing) then hey, I understand. *BUT* I don't know anyone that likes it.

If there is a way to slipstream the SP1 files into the base install like you
say (and if it was released in the MSDN shipments) that
would be very cool.

Right. Then I must be one unlucky man to do C++ dev on a laptop. Not
to mention I debug things in a virtual machine. I also happen to use
IronPython and F#. Indeed, very unlucky guy.

I hope they have the decency to release a version of VS2005 with SP1
integrated. My thinking is that it will take less time to
uninstall/install than to use this "thing".

Apparently, if you do *not* have the C++ part of VS2005 installed
the install time is significantly lowered. I have not installed
it yet, but will tomorrow (and I have plenty of room along with
C++ not installed). So, if you don't need C++, uninstall it first.
