Joel rewrote that article the newer version is http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/GuerrillaInterviewing3.html
It's a better read, and he does, indirectly, make the point about making the questions about pointers/recursion language agnostic. Since at that point you interested in their ability to think more than their ability to write syntax. In my experience of interviews i've found that having a discussion (making sure they do most of the talking) about development in general, or about the problems they've faced in the past, gives me a much better indication about the persons skill level. It's easier to spot a bullshitter when talking the whole picture rather than the small details. I've been in the situation where a developer aced all the Joel test questions but couldn't code worth a bean, since he just didn't have the ability to take a large problem and decompose it into the small interview size chunks. ------------------------------------ <snip> see http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000073.html The problem with asking such questions in technical forums is that they value technical knowledge....the questions presumes that innate ability is more important.....so I've probably got what I deserved. <snip> =================================== This list is hosted by DevelopMentorĀ® http://www.develop.com View archives and manage your subscription(s) at http://discuss.develop.com
