:) I still think working with freshmeat to create a Perl special interest
area is better. We already know people there, they have resources of
people, machines and an interest in having more people visit their site.
It also doesn't duplicate work and doesn't leave the effort completely on
the shoulders of a few people who may not be able to maintain it. Also,
freshmeat could concentrate the Perl content they already have into an even
more Perl-ish 'portal' of sorts. CPAN scripts focus is scripts as the rest
of CPAN is modules as it was in the beginning is now and probably ever
shall be. If the PAUSE ID process is clunky, suggest how it could be made
more appealing and inviting. Also, I would be very cautious of public code
review ala slashdot without nearly rabid moderation. 

The more unity in focus and the more collaboration, the more robust and
consistent the polished image and product will be.
