Well, I am a person of many hats as well but I don't use Perl to make
dinner. As I recall, he was an SA at the time and was using it to solve SA
chores. There were other motivations perhaps.

Actually, I thought it was sort of funny...'perl-less turds of the world

So what are SAGE and USENIX? Chopped livah? Here is an organisation that
has been behind Perl since day one yet noone seems to remember them. SAs
are the plumbers of the worlds systems...noone really thinks about them
until the toilet breaks.

They need to be enlightened, yes. However, the other day Perl was used for
a fun distraction by using it to set the message on a LED marqee we set up
outside one of the guys' cube. 'Comic Relief brought to you by Perl!' :)
*>Apparently, there is still a need to market Perl to sysadmins, and

If you want to be the buzz of the market like Java is, this is not the
approach. My mother knows what linux is, she's never heard of Perl.
She has even heard of Java and knows it has something to do
with the internet. My mother is a complete luddite. How, you might ask,
does this happen? It happens by very good targeted marketing,
professionals who are paid go out and create it.
I was thinking earlier...what about the logo being a plunger with 'does
the job' on the handle :)
Focus. What do you want. Who can give it to you and how do you propose to
get it from them? What do you do with it once you have gotten it.
"Be careful what you wish for as you just might get it."
