:) I thought it was interesting that quite a few guys objected to this as
well. One woman in particular was really upset about it as she noted that
the booth babe in question wasn't a techie and couldn't answer her
questions about the prize in the drawing. I felt badly as she was a bit
too aggressive and approaching it from a different viewpoint, one I hadn't
considered. 

I don't think it's that big of a deal but for an organisation that says
out of one orifice that Perl needs more women yet objectifies them in
another is a conflict of interest.

Well, as someone who lurked on-line most of my life as a guy I can surmise
that the overwhelming majority of testosterone bearing bipeds is pretty
intimidating. There are plenty of women in technology who use Perl but
going to these conferences sometimes requires a stick and a bit of courage
as you can be reasonably sure that 99% of the attendees are going to be
men. 

What about YAPC::Women ? :)
