Hear, hear.
I've often thought that an answer to the problem of marketing Perl
to would be a collaborative effort, funded by:
(a) the usual suspects (O'Reilly, Activestate,..),
(b) by appealing companies and organisations that have benfited
from Perl, and, especially:
(c) contributions from Perl developers.
After all, such a marketing campaign would benefit us all, and
would be a way of "giving back" that even those of us unable to
hack the core or write useful modules could contribute to :)
Such a campaign should start with small but regular ads in
PHB-friendly outlets such as PC Week and Computer Weekly. They
should be designed simply to raise awareness of the language:
that it exists, is stable, powerful, Free, is being used
in mission-critical apps by FooCo, and (#include your favourite
aspect of Perl.)
