I an not sure what you specifically mean by "hire a Perl programmer
directly".

A message to p5p can help you find someone who can port perl to your
XyzOS. Likewise then I'm sure a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] could
help you find someone who would write a DBD::FooBar for your FooBar
database. Most module authors are properly happy to take N amount
of money to fix/improve/implement M in their module.

I know that Tim a few times have done specific enhancements to
DBI.pm for specific amounts of money. The first versions of
libapreq (Apache::(Request|Cookie) are the perl interfaces) was
sponsored by Critical Path if I recall correctly.
