Actually, the director I'm currently working three steps under _was_ a 
UNIX sysad, and, according to my direct boss, thinks Perl is "a bunch of 
crap". I'd ask him why if I weren't afraid he'd tell me not to use it. 
I'm saving up my chips to fight for getting a common code base (one of 
our three sets of servers is still at v4!) instead.
