There's a fetching anecdote from when Olivier and Dustin Hoffman were making
THE MARATHON MAN together. Each morning Hoffman would go through all sorts of
"method" preparations (including running all the way from hotel to the
shooting location). He observed that Olivier never seemed to spend even five
minutes on "preparation" -- and yet he was great in the part. Awed and baffled,
Hoffman asked Olivier what HIS "method" was. Olivier answered: "I just
PRETEND!"
