The visual field is constructed in the brain. Vison is constructed in the brain from retinal infomation. Hold your arm out straight. Raise your thumb and let it cover some object you see in the distance. The area blocked by your thumb is the focal area. You'll be surprised at how small the focal area is, and how much information is blocked. The focal area remains the same regardless of the nearness or distance of the objects blocked by your raised thub at arm's length. It's a bit larger with two eyes, but not all that much. So, when you look at the objects in front of you, near or far, you must keep darting around with your looking and your brain stitches these images together chemically after transmission to the visual cortex in the back of your brain.
