Mando's persistent argument on behalf of self-direction is a fine guide to
creativity and success in the popular arts.
It's exactly what I'd expect an emerging punk band to be doing in their garage
-- finding their own unique voice -- inventing the music that they like to
hear - and then hoping there's a lot of other people who like it too.
But it doesn't quite address the challenge of making high art - where artists
must be aware of -- no, even more --- artists must closely study and compete
with canonical achievements of the past.
And maintaining something like a high art has been a real challenge in the
visual arts over the past hundred years because the institutions of Modernism
(museums and schools) have failed to do it. They simply have not been able to
reconcile innovation with quality.
If you're not interested in high art, this would not be a problem - but I
think most of us are -- with the exception of Cheerskep and Mando.

One would conclude, it's not in the object itself but
in our like mindedness
in our personal experience to it's related forms of
all sensed things.
At least, I am convinced of that, and why I work to
relate my forms in the
creation of what I do ,from my own being, and trust
that others will feel it too.
