Frances to Cheerskep and listers...
The serious address of art as a pressing issue is warranted and
justified in my opinion. Any attempt to satisfy that goal would
furthermore be served well by the use of theories culled from
metaphysical philosophy and findings posited from empirical
science. The best philosophy at the present seems to be that of
idealist realism and its angloamerican brand called realist
pragmatism, along with pragmatist categorics and semiotics. My
current interest therefore is to do semiotics in a pragmatist
vein, and then apply it to the methods of aesthetics and ethics
and logics, as well as to artistic problems. My tentative
assumption is that open website forums on the internet such as
this valued list are a good venue to discuss these concerns. My
motive in posting email messages here with the kind indulgence of
its members is partly to archive topical subjects so as to invite
further study and correction. The key for me in understanding the
arts as signs is hence methodical research through systematic
inquiry, which road clearly should not be blocked.
