William: You're great! Now, do you feel better?
I did include breaks and contacts in my list of possible components of the
recipe. You had a lot of other ingredients and I have gathered you've been
pretty successful - if not great.
Our own evaluation becomes increasingly important as we grow older.

OK, I want you guys to declare me "great". I had ten thousand hours many
times over of totally committed eccentric study as a kid. I was prompted
by wise parents of a privileged class. I have an established "royal
lineage". I had a terrific childhood memory, having memorized all the
Birds of America and many Robert Service poems and the Latin Mass. I was
good with card tricks. I read the whole Book of Knowledge. I could draw
anything by the 5th grade, especially naked ladies. I hated athletics. I
quit school at 16, a flunkout, drank too much, hung out with delinquent
gang members, got in trouble with police, fought in the street, but later
had a first rate college education. I had a widely varying IQ, depending
on my interest whenever the tests were done: moron one day, genius the
next. I had diverse "talents" for whatever interested me, and even
failed the "art aptitude test" and scored very high in math aptitude but
really couldn't do
algebra...just intuited answers. I became a advertising manager. I became
an artist. I raised a family and paid my bills. Now what's missing? Why
am I still just a wannabe great? If you say I'm great, then that'll do it,
OK? Or do I have to claim Divine Right?

All stories are based on memory. All memories are fiction.
