just ask 10 people to guess the length of a log. they may be close but i'd bet they're all going to guess different lengths. further, we do become practiced at internalizing some measurements, such as how far to open the hand to grasp a cup, etc. most people fail greatly at guessing the distance of objects, especially if they or it is moving. wc
