But what's the harm in someone else "cashing in on my work and
plagiarizing it." ?
If your original ideas were good ones, why not let everyone take credit for
them? Without copyright, the plagiarizers will themselves be plagiarized.
Isn't the circulation of good ideas more important than anybody's reputation
? (and once again, Cheerskep, in our new internet world, the cost of
publication and distribution is ZERO -- a major change since the days of Queen
Anne)
I hadn't thought about the connection to Martin Luther (where is Kirby when we
really need him ?)
But I like it.
Yes -- priestly blessing should not be for sale -- and neither should the
intellectual's voice. (and in Luther's day, those was the same thing)
BTW -- I'm not for revoking copyright law -- but I am for considering its
negative as well as positive consequences. And when copyright law is
encouraging art museums to keep good reproductions of their collection off the
internet, that's a serious problem as far as I am concerned.

How can you write a decent review of art, as you did about my shows, and then
go off on a Smokey Stover wacky path proclaming copyright law being somehow
about filthy money that ruins art? Is this some sort of Luther act, as if
copyrights and protection of artists' intellectual property and their right to
earn a living by it is analogous to selling in indulgences, the selling of
spiritual salvation? Once you write something sensible, like your published
art journalism, it becomes the new Miller threshold and you can't revert to
blockheaded ideas again. OK?
