Yes -- I'm offering 'empty mind'  as only one of the  preconditions for good
judgment - where William and I differ is regarding the others.
(I would emphasize mentoring, as well as prior experience in judging the work
of self and others, while William emphasizes the importance of reading
critical literature)

BTW -  I'm a bit puzzled by what Boris thinks I am forgetting regarding the
ability to  "experience that 'emptiness of mind' "

Special training is offered by various meditative systems (Zen, Yoga, etc) --
but it seems that the young, blue-collar Cheerskep discovered the wonderful
world of Classical music without needing any of it.
