Actually, it was in the late late forties when i finish art at Otis
Art School,
in Los Angeles. During the middle thirties our family always toned in
to the
Spanish News in LA radio, so we followed the civil war in Spain on a
daily
basis. I distinctly remember the daily phrase "bombardiaron Madrid",
and
all the details, before leaving for school every morning. So my
interest in
Spain and the popularity of Franco's close ties to German Fascismo was
always in my mind. Picasso was not well thought of in my circle of
friends
But,that was when the word "aesthetics" had a mystery sound to it, which
was not clarified even after two semesters of Philosophy in college.
I struggled with it on my own till I was satisfied with my own
conclusion.
My Mother was no help in translating the word aesthetics in spanish
when
I wrote to Picasso, but it was pretty close to what i now know as
astetica.
I wanted him to tell me If i understood the meaning i had been preaching
to myself since those days. I send it to a City in France i don't
recall. He
never answered. I think the between Picasso,Henry Moore, Naguchi and
my pre-columbian Nayarit, Mexico west, is quite enough for this me.

What did you say ?
As I've been recently learning, there were many great early 20th C.
sculptors still alive in the 1960's and 70's -- and I wish I could
have
written to them.
But that was back before the internet -- and even if I had the time
and cash
to travel, it still would have been very difficult to find them (or
even
become aware of their existence)
