The analysis comes second, I agree, but for me, often it comes almost immediately. "Look at that. Man, I really like the way the artist did ______." That's the beginning. And as much as I am looking for it when I go galleries, it almost always comes as a surprise because I'm expecting to see it in one place and it comes from another. These analytical experiences also occur when I'm looking at an old friend on the wall and notice something that had previously been masked by the other effects of the work, the big impacts that never really fail to appear. It's like saying the same ol' rote prayers at Mass and then one day you pay attention to a phrase that previously had traipsed right past you, and it makes in impression. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Michael Brady
