Yes, I would rather consider myth and metaphor even though the idea of reading a book written by a female is tempting.
On another note- I was reading Shearman on Mannerism. He said that the idea of a work of art for its own sake first began when collectors asked artists(Cardinals asked Michelangelo) for something-anything convenient, and that this began the divorce of work from its function(religious etc) and began the tend towards art as something in itself. Is this a conclusion which is generally accepted? Kate Sullivan
