Yeah, that’s what happened on washing machines. And dryers. It gave the domestic manufacturers room to raise prices.
Things like Mean Well, I know Sager sent out a nice detailed letter showing how they were passing along the tariff on just their wholesale cost not their profit, so everything was on the up-and-up. The impact is biggest when the finished item comes from China, not just a raw material like steel. If there’s a 25% tariff on computers, the price of a Supermicro computer goes up nearly 25% to the end user. I’m not sure of the timing, if I need to place my order before June 1 to avoid the increase, or if there’s a ripple effect and only goods brought into the country after that date get the tariff passed along. Is this the way that this is supposed to work? Are others running into the same thing? It sounds like I need to place my order now. That’s not a trivial increase. We’ve also received tariff notifications from tower steel vendors, power supply vendors, cable vendors, and we saw Cambium increase prices a few months ago. Some of these like the steel and cable you just eat, but potentially everything we buy except bandwidth may be going up. I wonder if bandwidth suppliers will figure out a way to jack up prices claiming tariffs! -- AF mailing list [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com
