Yes, those that did show are busting their asses out there. I would have
grabbed a shovel and jumped into the ditch with them but I am waiting for a
new hire to show at the office for a meet and greet. And he is a bit vague
as to when he will be here.
I like the idea of extra PTO. I think I will do that.

Yeah if they didn't say anything and figured they'd just give you the
finger by calling in sick or no-show that'd piss me off too. If there's
a conflict then grow a pair and say something, or only work part of the
day or something.
Did the people that did show up have to work harder to make up for the
lack of those that skipped out? I would try to figure out a way to
reward those that do show up. Extra vacation days? Extra PTO? Take the
amount you would have paid everyone who called in sick and divide it up
as a bonus?
