The problem with this smarthome stuff is the big companies like Google want to
wall you into their ecosystem. Then they change their mind and your things
turn into bricks and your home becomes a dumb home, or worse if you can’t
control all those smart lightbulbs and thermostats the old fashioned way.

Or like choosing between VHS and Beta, you discover both were wrong and are now
obsolete. And Laserdisc and DVD were wrong. And probably BluRay is wrong,
too. Because streaming. But probably that’s also wrong, just not sure what
the new right thing will be.

I have three big assed swamp coolers that have their switches about 100’ away
from our main light switch panel up front.

And I have a shop air control that is probably 50’ away from the same spot.
Like to just have those 4 switches remoted up to the same area as all the light
switches are. Just not familiar with the state of the art.

You can do this with zwave and smartthings. I have a location in my house that
I control two separate circuits/lights with one switch. There are tons of
difference ways to set this stuff up.

Is X10 still a thing? Anyone know of a good method to RF remote a normal light
switch or power line carrier control it?
