I poked around in my old notes, I found the procedure that worked when I
tested it.
I guess it helps to be 'old'.

It wasn't hard to get, I wasn't a programmer and I had discovered it
after a few days of SM and AP memory dumping through scripts and telnet
PEEKs, looking at diffs and fiddling around with POKE commands. Then I
mentioned it to Mr. H from down under and he had a more reliable POKE
address that survived config changes better IIRC.
That was like 10 years ago, afterwards I didn't really keep note of the
final commands / "cheat code" as you call it but it was an educational
challenge.

AP to auto-update and it took care of it for me.
