Carr certainly played the role of sycophant yes man, seemingly oblivious of
what his roll should be or could be. If the advertisers disliked Kimmel, they
can certainly lean on the network and shut him down. Perhaps that is what
happened but I was astounded to see the FCC weigh in. Weird times.

The First Amendment is widely misunderstood. It applies to the government
restricting free speech. Brendan Carr had no legal authority to use threats to
censor speech, he should have shut up and stayed in his lane. If the networks
Nexstar and Sinclair wanted to coerce Disney/ABC to censor Kimmel, their only
worry would be viewer backlash, I don’t think it would be a First Amendment
violation. There was no need for Carr to get involved, what he did was
performative.

Name one restriction limiting criticism of the president that survived scrutiny.

There old laws restricting free speech. He is attempting to ressurect them.
If successful then yes, some forms of free speech would not be lawful.

Saying that free speech isn't legal is honest?

Trump at least has enough honesty to say he wants to shut down those that
bother him. While it seems very un American at least he is up front. I find
that better than the Biden admin using the FBI to lean on FB & Twitter to
delete content and kill accounts. Both are a fascist’s tactic/maneuver.

I’m not sure it matters a whole lot whether some violent protestors or
hooligans are Antifa or not. If they use “black bloc” techniques and arson,
maybe they are just some bad dudes.

What concerns me more is that everything lately is done by “the left” or “the
right”. Not a particular person I can name, like this or that senator or my
neighbor Bob. My observation was this used to be more common with the media
supporting DJT because he blames “the lunatic radical left”, but now the
progressive leaning media is blaming everything on “the right”.

It’s as if all people belong to one or the other, and you can identify them on
site. When in reality I think most people if you asked them whether they are
“the left” or “the right” would reject those labels. And they are the same
species and look the same. (Well, I’ll make an exception for the MAGA cult,
they wear red hats to declare their identity. I feel like MAGA isn’t the same
as “the right” although lots of people would disagree.)

A specific person, Tyler Robinson, shot Charlie Kirk. But that doesn’t fit
anyone’s preconceived narrative or advance their agenda or put money in their
pocket. It must be the fault of some group I dislike. He did it because he
was raised in a conservative family. He did it because the left called Kirk
bad names. He did it because of the transgender roommate. Who knows? The
only information we have from the killer’s own words is Kirk said things that
pissed him off. I never followed Charlie Kirk, but in retrospect he said some
things I find offensive. But apparently in a spirit of free discussion. Do we
kill people now for saying things we find offensive? I hope it hasn’t come to
that. I’d bet most of us would have to kill several people per day.

Who remembers Joe McCarthy and McCarthyism? You could destroy someone by
calling them a Communist, you didn’t need proof, and it didn’t really have that
much to do with Communism. It was just a label you could throw at someone. So
if Joe says Chuck is a Communist, and Steve protests that he knows Chuck and he
isn’t a Communist, then Steve must be a Communist, and he must be destroyed as
well.

Some of these labels like the left, the right, woke, anti-semitic, terrorist,
etc. feel like McCarthyism to me.

I can make a website like that today.

and I don't really give a shit because it's not a real organization.

If you google "join antifa", you will get at least a dozen different places to
go; all disconnected from one another.

Name their leader.
