Both ways. If you spent the money on ribbon, you can just pinch it from the sides and the glue breaks them apart. Gotta be careful and all that, never know when not to push it.
You can also buy the cheaper loose tube stuff and ribbon it yourself. My techs are good enough to just do it by hand, but I use a bottle of glue and some cheap plastic clips. Assuming it's modern stuff. If this free 48ct is from pre-2010 it could be the same or totally different.
