The people traditionally running a bridged network are not the types that are understanding of any of the things you just mentioned. Not sure I'd accept VLANs as being sufficient, but the other stuff would be an upgrade.
The "overall industry"? Which industry is this, Mark? The carriers with 10 GigE or 100 GigE between locations where extra traffic isn't even noticed or the WISP industry with 4 meg access points? ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Radabaugh via Af" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2014 9:55:55 AM Subject: Re: [AFMUG] ISP Radio Wednesday -- Bridged vs Routed MEF, PBB, PBB-TE, MPLS, VLAN, G.8032, ERPS, VLAN, etc. are all valid alternatives to a L3 routed network. All of these are tools in the toolbox. If you insist that the only proper tool is a hammer that's your choice - but I don't think the results are going to be all that pretty.
