Adding more QAM’s only helps to a point. One could argue, 1024QAM is a
theoretical limit for longer links due to the RX required. But 4096QAM will be
out there at some point – 2048QAM is already becoming common (although once
again – only helps to a point).

Access to different spectrum bands helps. We have been supporting a lot of
38GHz deployments in frequency congested areas lately due to the reasons you
mention. 28GHz I see coming back – and SAF even made a 30GHz product for LMDS
Block A license holders. But this only helps so much, as there are big
companies that own this spectrum – so it doesn’t work licensing wise the same
(if you can get access at all).

The Feds still hold some spectrum blocks that could be released – and a
creative approach to bring back 4GHz would be cool.

The Ceragon MIMO approach will make its way into more radios – and I’m sure
other innovations are coming. But I think there is a very real plateau coming
soon for microwave – but that next innovation could always be right around the
corner.

Millimeter wave is going to be where the real excitement is at in the next 24
months in my opinion. Lots of innovation still to be had there… 10Gbps and
beyond is easily reachable.

The conversation goes deeper. In several areas we are out of spectrum, it may
be due to HFT or just plain out. So most WISPs if they have deployed Licensed,
they have to deal with what spectrum they have. The question is, where do you
see the licensed backhaul market in the next few years, are they just going to
be adding qams or finding other creative ways to add capacity? I am not in
the WISP business anymore so I have decided to try and focus on the things that
drove me nuts to help others.

Your issue is really then with promo’s and capacity keys – which is marketing
and different ways to make revenue on a product.

Just like the PtMP space, not all PtP vendors do capacity keys and play those
games either.

I think we're already seeing it. They're not wifi chipset based radio kind of
prices, but they can be found for less than half of what you could get them for
just a few years ago.

After several years, when will we see Licensed radios come down in price?
There is so much margin in these things. Its ridiculous....
