In this case, it probably depends on whether the new hires spend the first 6 months rewriting all the code because “that’s not the way I would have done it”.
Also, was Simon actually writing code, or more of an architect? Was Jacob a sales engineer, or more of a product manager, or was he actually writing code? If there’s a good roadmap and architecture, the existing code is well documented, and procedures exist for regression testing, it might not be the end of the world. Especially if they still have access to Simon on a consulting basis. Cambium/Motorola lost a bunch of people and while it surely set them back a bit, they didn’t fall off the earth.
