You are correct Josh, that $69 fee is nothing for us. I just ordered a $30,000
dell server job for a client on mine on my spark card and nothing feels better
than taking more money from dell and visa at the same time. ☺ $600 more
spending cash ☺

Just looking at this...I have the 1.5% cash back card. It is $0 annual fee.
Yours is 2% but a $59 fee. I didn't realize there were two.

You need to spend $11800 to make up that fee difference. Not really bad at all.

I have spent years on this, and do to the fact I fly out of a small airport, I
use different airlines all the time. The best I have found is to use a Capital
One Venture Card with 2% travel points on all purchases. This allows me to fly
on any airline at any time no blackouts and use it for hotel and car rental,
when I get back and its on my statement I can apply the points to my travel
purchases. So if you spend $100,000 on it, you can spend $2000 on travel. I
use this card for everything I can, as always if you don’t pay it off every
month than you probably shouldn’t be worried about miles anyways, you have
other issues. We use the Capital Spark Card for the business and get 2% cash
back on all purchases. I think we made about $6000 last year on that. Than
when I fly Southwest, I still get my southwest points, when they build up
enough, I can fly free once in a great while with the southwest points, plus I
got 2% on the earlier tickets using the credit card. I believe this is the
best option if you only fly a couple of times a year. All the research that I
have done, seems to be that if you fly monthly with a certain airline, you can
get better results, if not, this is by far the best way I have found. I’m open
to any suggestions. YMMV

You get less for cash back. But if you don't want to travel then that's better
anyway

That's what I was thinking... can you actually get anymore out of airline miles
than if you just use a card that gives you decent cash back?

Why not just save 1.5% and use the savings?

Not much. I think I have 75000 miles roughly. I think that would buy me one
flight anywhere in the CONUS. Or for maybe 45000 I could upgrade an UPGRADE
ELIGIBLE ticket to first class.

I have never played the miles game but I want to learn. What kind of miles are
transferrable between air carriers? What does a “mile” actually equate to in
dollars saved? I presume some credit cards are better for this?
