I have Zimbra open source 7.1.x across seven VMs of CentOS 5. I have LDAP master, LDAP replica, two mailboxes, two MTAs and one proxy (needed for more than one mailbox server). Other work keeps coming up, but I am meaning to migrate to fresh OSes with Zimbra open source 8.x (I think 8.5 is the latest). My server mix will be different as they've made some architectural changes that are good (and even better is on the way.
I was going to post screen shots of my virtual environment monitoring system, but there's too much work to do to sanitize the shots and explain what everything is. I think I gave each VM 4 CPUs and four to eight gigs of RAM. Those never seem to be majorly affected. The RAM more so. I just bought new boxes that bring double the RAM my current cluster has, so the new VMs will probably have a bit of a boost. I didn't allocate enough disk space for some of the boxes. I gave I think 8 gigs to each but the mailboxes, which I gave 120 gigs or 150 gigs. I'd probably give the other boxes 12 or 16 gigs next time and probably 250 gigs each to the mailboxes. It's easy enough to add more mailboxes as you bring on more users. The newer versions are supposed to have a lot more awesome features. I don't think it'll make the 8.x family, but perhaps in the next... truly diverse\redundant everything. I will be able to run mailboxes in my NOC (near Chicago) and in my Indy cluster concurrently with the same content. The user doesn't know if a whole cluster fails. That, my friends, is epic. Everything but the mailboxes is already redundant\diverse.
