Might try a Ubnt Airrouter.  It has less options and I can't even recall
the last time we had one of those i-devices with problems.

DHCP/DNS aren't really going to be a template thing - they're yours to
decide.  I have always left everything MT default unless I need to solve a
problem, which is pretty uncommon.
