My thoughts on fiber and power up the tower.

If you are doing more than 6 runs of good shielded cable over 200 feet then 
fiber isn’t that much more expensive.  You are going to burn through 2 boxes of 
cat5/6.  Thats the cost of your fiber right there.

You get several benefits with Fiber.  Eric does it a little different than I 
do.  With his system make sure all of your grounds are good.  All of them tied 
back to a single place. 

I differ in my thinking. Not saying his way is wrong, just a school of thought. 
 My school involves floating the ground.  Fiber and DC travel up the tower to a 
RB2011, which acts as a media converter.  The APS and Backhauls can be powered 
by whatever works for you.  Dumb POEs, PacketFlux, Tycon power, etc.  This 
floating ground isolates the equipment from house power. We see most of the 
events come from the house side and travel up the tower on it’s way to reaching 
out to the sky.  This is how most lightning “strikes” happen anyway.  So, we 
cut off the path from the house power to the equipment with deep cycle 
batteries and such.
