If you have 10 dB/km rain, 2 dBi doesn't get you very much.

How much farther does 2dBi get you in the real world. 3dBi is worth about 40%.
However, if you want the higher QAM rate, half the distance to start with and
go from there. That assumes both boards are exactly the same.

Yes I know that.

Does anyone have any experience of how much better HD is?

Ubnt says a lot of things =P

The added distance would be thanks to 2dbi rx gain.

I have not studied the spec sheets. But UBNT say AF24 = 13 km and AF24HD = 20
km. So I assumed it had more EIRP and therefore some more range?

Just wondered if it would be a 50% increase in distance in the real world.

It isn't going to get any more distance, I don't know why you think it would?
EIRP is EIRP.

Northern California, Sierra foothills.
AF24 works here well up to 3 miles. We have one at 4.3 miles, which to date has
worked well but as we have had no rain to speak of for years it’s hard to know
what it will do in the rain.
Anyone a feel for the % better a 24HD is over 24?

What kind of real world distances are you seeing with AF24HD compared with
AF24?
