I use 1" 4:1 adhesive lined heat shrink whenever practical. No, it is
not easy to remove. Never on an omni though, those break a lot more
often and it's easier to fix when there's only silicone-rubber tape on it.
Here's what I've been using lately:

And it shrinks faster than the DSG-Canusa stuff which means less heat on
the radio/antenna.

N connectors are supposed to be waterproof as is, but I think water
sneaks in under the heatshrink tubing that they put behind the connector.
I can attest that PPC brand compression fittings are truly water proof
and don't need any tape. They're $25/each and require a $2000 tool to
install them on the cable.....but they're water proof :)
Apart from that, my favorite solution is the adhesive lined heat
shrink that was suggested by somebody on this list. I don't imagine
it will come off easily, but it's a cheap, clean method.

Silicone self-fusing tape. Butyl with vinyl over it is fine but messier.
Who is telling you use nothing?

What do you guys use to seal the connectors on the radio to antenna?
Butyl tape, electoral type or nothing at all…. just curious
because am hearing don’t put nothing at all because it builds up
moisture on the connectors
thanks
