I should have provided this link because lost in the passion are often facts,
yet facts are essential when trying to deal with problems – you can’t fix what
gets misdiagnosed. I’m not saying it is the sole cause by any means, just a
major contributing catalyst. Of course, one might only agree with this provided
one gets his scientific opinion from, well a consensus of actual scientists,
and not TV pundits, “religious” figures, or politicians. A
study<http://www.pnas.org/content/112/11/3241.abstract> published by the
proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences concluded:
There is evidence that the 2007−2010 drought contributed to the conflict in
Syria. It was the worst drought in the instrumental record, causing widespread
crop failure and a mass migration of farming families to urban centers.
Century-long observed trends in precipitation, temperature, and sea-level
pressure, supported by climate model results, strongly suggest that
anthropogenic forcing has increased the probability of severe and persistent
droughts in this region, and made the occurrence of a 3-year drought as severe
as that of 2007−2010 2 to 3 times more likely than by natural variability
alone. We conclude that human influences on the climate system are implicated
in the current Syrian conflict.
And then there’s this: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-34790661 So expect
a lot more of such things. That’s the irony of denial, it ultimately results in
much more of things such people fear, like mass migration of displaced people,
ergo, immigration.

The Syrian conflict has its roots in climate change. The once fertile regions
in southeastern Syria dried up, sending hundreds of thousands of rural folk to
the cities as climte refugees. The government ignored to new influx, and people
were left with no jobs, no nothing. Agitated, they began to protest. The
protests were secular and economic. Hardcore Islamists exploited the situation
and the power vacuum. And in a round about way, here we are today.

Incidentally, there are also mass exodus and climate exacerbated war in South
Sudan and other areas of central and center east Africa. At the very least,
climate change is making chronic problems more acute.

I read recently that climate change will make parts of the middle east
