We conclude that human influences on the climate system are implicated in the current Syrian conflict. The once fertile regions in southeastern Syria dried up, sending hundreds of thousands of rural folk to the cities as climte refugees. The government ignored to new influx, and people were left with no jobs, no nothing. Agitated, they began to protest. The protests were secular and economic. Hardcore Islamists exploited the situation and the power vacuum. And in a round about way, here we are today. Incidentally, there are also mass exodus and climate exacerbated war in South Sudan and other areas of central and center east Africa. At the very least, climate change is making chronic problems more acute.
