Yeah, hard external soles help. On a rohn25, I straddle a side bar and put a foot on each side. Y lanyard up top at different points, and I use a petzl grillion to lock me in place where I can just sit down in my harness seat. It's rather comfortable, but not as nice as sitting attop an SSV.
