I am reading Kara Kush by Idries Shah about Russian invasion of Afghanistan
and the guerrilla fighters that drove them out. Lots of mujahadid tactics
were down right genius. I am surprised how many of the Russian words I
know or figure out with my Spanish and Latin knowledge... the tribal
differences reminds of our own 1st nation differences... if you understand
pashtu or Dari it makes it a better read. Several great empires have
tried to conquer Afghanistan and failed... they are a resilient and
resourceful people...the 80s seem like yesterday yet still distant. The
writing is complex but enjoyable and if you have traveled it adds flavor to
it.
