Until I got the Kindle paperwhite, with the backlight, I was of the same opinion. Now, I hate reading dead tree books just because of the external light required. But again I do most of my reading just before bed so that might affect my opinion.
For novels my e-ink reader is great. For stuff like comics I still prefer a dead tree book.
