I've never used a wordpress site, but something like this would be easy to do with Angular.js on the front end if you were using a fairly simple polygon like a circle or square. Otherwise you would most likely have to use a spatial database. postgre and sqlserver both have pretty good spatial capabilities. You would have to import your polygons, then search for an intersection of the point and any of the polygons within your database. This is how our program tract and block references customers and determines block coverage for 477 data.
