Cat5 should be fine, color code is different, official telco T1 wiring used to 
be shielded 22 AWG (the red stuff they charge you $1/foot for) but most telco 
techs use Cat5 UTP now.  Are you extending the outside plant side, or the DSX-1 
side?  I’ll assume the latter.  Usually the max DSX-1 distance is given as 655 
feet.  You might have LBO (line build out) settings based on distance, either 
DIP switches or a software setting.

I've extended smartjacks a couple hundred feet via existing copper, never had 
any issues.
