Yes but the requirements and the re-numeration wildly vary .... I have been a director for example with an Internet Exchange Point where you get your costs covered but that's it.. with a local non-profit where you got zero and not even costs covered..... Then for another commercial organization I sat on their board of directors as a 'technical advisor' and got $6k/month for basically 12 hours of effort per month....
