Well, if the suspect drops his gun and walks away with his hands up then the "death sentence" should be revoked.

We discussed this a little while driving from install to install on Friday.
Once lethal force is authorized / warranted is there really much difference
between an officer waiting an hour and putting a bullet through his head
when he gets a chance and the police blowing him up? Dead is dead once you
decided dead is an option as soon as its possible its all semantics after
that. At least that's where we ended up when discussing it.

A motivated individual can run 200 feet in 8 or 9 seconds. If he's wearing
some kind of body armor he can possibly get further before being brought
down. Add some kind of shrapnel to the explosives and now you've got a lot
of projectiles flying toward the officers that were previously shooting at
the bad guy.

I don't know the whole story, nor does anyone else on this list.

My impression was that the guy wasn't really talking, and he'd
already shot a dozen officers (at least 3 or 4 fatally). At that
point, I feel that any means necessary to prevent more damage.

Call it the nuclear option if you will.

Why blow up a perp?
Why not keep talking?
Better to have him caged for the rest of his life IMHO.
