For direct burial, we either use the Superior Essex BBDGE, or some other gel
filled cable inside PVC conduit. Although I do have some Belden in about 30
feet of PVC conduit buried in the gravel at a commercial tower from the tower
to our cabinet. That was a mistake, water does get into the conduit, although
it has not caused problems so far.

7919a doesn’t have dry powdery stuff inside, so maybe something different. I
have found that if you do get water inside the Belden cable (like from a radio
with water intrusion ... cough, cough, Powerbridges) it will go right down to
the bottom inside that clear mylar. So while I don’t personally think the dry
gel tape is nearly as effective as actual gel, it might help.

i think its the 7919a, ill heve to check if i can find some of it stashed, it
has powdery stuff, no wet gel and the shield was heavy you coule fold it back
without worrying about it tearing, or twist it to put it into a gound, the
braided drain would uncoil off the sheath if you didnt hold it with your thumb
or tape it, but slipping the shielded connectors over it didnt tear the foil.
You could trust it if it was buried, though i dont think it was rated for it,
Ive never seen apex come out of the ground with a dry interior

Have you tried the Shireen DC-1042? It’s similar to Belden, but the foil
isn’t bonded to the jacket so you can actually fold it back. It has the dry
gel impregnated tape instead of the clear mylar in the Belden. Only thing I
miss maybe is the stranded drain wire. I forget which Belden version has that,
we used to buy both 1300a and 7919a, I think maybe it was the 7919a that had
the stranded drain wire.

The Shireen pullboxes work pretty nice.

thats how the belden is, soft sheath is more durable. I love coming across
it. the apex is prone to pinholing and kinking

I don’t buy Commscope 5NF4 anymore because the installers won’t use it
because they hate the goo. They do have to admit however when they go to a 10
year old install that it stands up to the weather really, really well.

if i was in charge, we never would have gone away from the belden on the
residential outdoor. apex 9 in the winter is so stiff, the foil tears and the
drain is like a bread tie. but at least its not green toughcable :-)

We do sell Primus, Belden, and Shireen as well if you would rather use
one of those cables.

I guess it's time for the regular survey on cable preferences for
residential installs. Of course looking for shielded Cat5 and preferably pays
