I think the user/password is done locally before any communication is
done with the remote device. I know that when I have a Tik that is
locked up, but still showing in the neighbor list, mactelnet will always
ask user/pass, but then fail when trying to connect.
I always through mac-telnet was Tik proprietary.

By default MAC-Telnet is enabled and the radios show up in IP
Neighbors on a Mikrotik. When we trying connecting we get challenged
for Login (then password) and the normal password for the Admin
account get rejected.
Am I missing something?
