B&B Electronics has actual application engineers, you could call and ask
them what device is right for your application.

 

They are a local company here in Ottawa, IL.  But I see now they are
"Advantech B+B SmartWorx", so apparently they got bought.

If I want to extend an RS232 connection over IP, what sort of options do I

It's for an LCD control panel for a piece of equipment.  Google shows me
lots of serial-IP servers where it bridges a telnet session to the serial
port, but that's not what I'm looking for.  I know you industrial control
guys do this, so I'm sure there's a way.
