My main issue with weird industrial ethernet switches is that they have
terrible http and command line user interfaces, with a lot of features
missing that can be found in 1U rackmount Cisco or Juniper switches. Having
a device with "real" IOS or JunOS on it is invaluable from a larger scale
network perspective at layers 3-7.

Sometimes this does mean special environmental enclosures for a switch that
is not hardened, or buying one of these:
