From: Diane Magagane [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] MEDIA RELEASE FESTIVAL OF SOUTH AFRICAN SHORT FILMS IN STELLENBOSCH
Cinemagoers with a taste for homegrown quality are in for a treat when some of the finest local products will be on show at the first festival of South African short films in Stellenbosch, to be held from 14-17 March. The festival, SA Shorts @ Stellenbosch, will be presented by the Film Resource Unit and M-Net in collaboration with the Minimax cinema and the Stellenbosch Film Forum and will include some brand new short films as well as a selection of other recent releases. Highlights of the festival are three new shorts commissioned by M-Net as part of the Edit project, namely Drink in the Passage, Waiting for Valdez and Ubuntu's Wounds. Short films will be screened in three groups, with a total duration of approximately 100 minutes per show. To link with the short film festival, the Minimax theatre will also show a selection of feature length films by African directors in an adjacent cinema for the duration of the festival. A fine selection of African films like Lumumba (Congo), Hyena's, Touki Bouki (Senegal) and Summer at La Goulette (Tunisia), will also be showcased. There will also be opportunities to meet some of the filmmakers, and in a student workshop seminar a director will share some of the secrets of the trade. Other activities and events include panel discussions of the films and special screenings for schoolchildren. Tickets will cost only R15 for adults and R10 for pupils, students and pensioners. A special pass will also be available at R30 which will grant unlimited access to all the films shown. More detail about the programme will be released shortly.
